Beacon Cares

A Culture of Giving

At Beacon, we feel it's important to give back to the community in which we do business. It is a central part of the Beacon culture and has been since the company’s inception. Our focus is on three main areas of need; hunger, health and children.

Community Outreach Efforts

The Beacon team has participated in fundraiser for cancer research and hurricane relief, performed hours of community service at food banks and donated time to area beautification projects. Each year our community outreach efforts grow in size and scope.

Hunger

Simple Gestures

A Simple Gesture, Greensboro NC

Serving the Greensboro NC community, A Simple Gesture partners with businesses and local entities to provide a regular supply of food to neighbors who may otherwise go without. Through a series of 6 pick-ups throughout the year, Beacon employees donated food throughout the year as well as having stacked and sorted food for distribution by partners.

Second Harvest Food Bank

Second Harvest Food Bank, Winston Salem NC

Serving the 18 county region of Northwest North Carolina, The Second Harvest Food Bank delivers 37 tons of food to a network of on-the-ground partners in the community. Their mission is to 'help set the tables of our struggling neighbors when they cannot'. The Beacon team contributed volunteer hours sorting and packing in support of The Second Harvest Food Bank.

Health

United Way Beacon Teams

United Way of North Carolina

United Way of North Carolina provides financial support to partners throughout the community, focusing primarily on needs in education, income and health. Employees participated in Beacon's annual 'United Way Games' raising money for the Greensboro area United Way.

Breast Cancer Walk Teams

American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Walk

Beacon employees participated in the annual breast cancer walk, honoring those who have battled the disease and helping to raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Children

Changing Lives in Rwanda.

The idea behind Weaving Hope is simple - fund new schools for Rwandan children with sales of beautiful handcrafted baskets made by local artisans in the small Rwandan village of Gitarama.  The proceeds go directly to building schools that will nourish the minds and bodies of children - weaving hope for their future.

Kid's Path

Kids Path was founded in Greensboro, North Carolina by Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro as a model of care for seriously ill and grieving children. The Beacon team dedicated it's time and energy to the beautification of the gardens at Kid's Path.

Power of Play Foundation

Power of Play Foundation

Established by former NFL player Ricky Proehl, the Power of Play Foundation works with the United Way to provide scholarships to kids from low income families to attend sports camps after school or during the summer. The Beacon team donated gifts to the foundation’s Santa’s Helper program.

Helping Partners...

In 2017, several of Beacon's partners suffered catastrophic damage from weather related events. In response, Beacon employees made donations to The University of the Virgin Islands and Delmar College's hurricane relief fund.

Moving forward, we hope to elevate our outreach efforts to new heights. Contact Heather Grimsley with any questions or for any additional information about Beacon and it's community outreach initiative.
