Project Goals

Improved information architecture and content presentation help improve user experience

In an effort to modernize and organize a sprawling site that spread across numerous sub-domains, the stakeholders at Guilford Technical Community College chose Beacon to get the job done - and get it done right. We launched into a strategy phase that encompassed user behavior analyses and focus group feedback, then used that data to develop a new, contemporary design.

The result: an improved web experience for all users that placed wanted information within easy reach, streamlined the application process and helped boost enrollment.

Outcomes Achieved

  • Created a sticky header featuring two types of navigation: a primary menu that caters to prospective students and a secondary audience-based menu for other valued users.
  • Designed a simpler, more manageable information architecture that allows users to intuitively find information they're looking for on their journey throughout the site.
  • Wrote cleaner, more succinct, SEO-compatible webpage copy to help the site be more visible in search engine search results and deliver messaging effectively.
  • Created an academic programs page featuring advanced filters and a tidy presentation of program-specific information via an accordion menu.
  • Built a homepage panel promoting GTCC's seven distinct campuses to serve as an introduction to the wide range of capabilities and expertise taught at the college.
