Colorado State University-Pueblo is a fully-accredited state university offering 51 undergraduate, graduate, and pre-professional degree programs to nearly 4,500 students. 300 days of sunshine a year grace the culturally-rich 275-acre campus, which is located a few hours south of Denver.  

Brains. Beauty. Brawn.

When Colorado State University-Pueblo decided they needed a complete website redesign they partnered with Beacon and put our “Brains, Beauty, and Brawn” to the test!

The strategy phase, or “Brains” as we like to call it, includes user experience and engagement analysis, as well as marketing analysis – resulting in a comprehensive strategic plan to guide your project moving forward.

The “Beauty” is your design brought to life as a responsive website that gives your users the ultimate site experience with intuitive navigation, impactful imagery and video, and engaging calls to action.

The technology behind your website is the “Brawn”. This includes development of customized HTML templates, implementation into the content management system, content migration, and multiple levels of thorough testing – all while keeping accessibility, analytics, and search engine optimization in mind.

  • The Brains: Directing CSU-Pueblo's New Design

    The strategy phase of this project helped to determine the direction of CSU-Pueblo’s comprehensive strategic plan. The Beacon team gathered valuable information that informed recommendations about features, functionality, and design during stakeholder sessions, focus groups, surveys, and Google Analytics analysis. 

  • The Beauty: CSU-Pueblo's Custom Design Brought to Life

    • The newly designed website incorporates the use of full-width imagery and engaging video, vertical scrolling for movement through the site, and a sticky call-to-action menu on both desktop and mobile.
    • An intuitive audience-based navigation breaks down CSU-Pueblo’s website into easy to find categories that contain exactly what Prospective Students, Parents, Alumni, Current Students, Faculty and Staff are looking for. It was important to CSU-Pueblo to have dedicated areas for all of their internal audiences – leaving the website's homepage to speak to their core target audience of prospective students and their families.
    • Custom pages such as the Academic Programs detail page incorporates movement in the design, creating interaction for the user. Functionality includes sorting content by Undergraduate, Graduate, and Online Courses to provide quick content access for the user. In addition, this area includes a visual display of which areas of study offer majors, minors, and masters programs. This content is responsive which creates an optimal user experience on any device or screen size.
  • The Brawn: The Technology Driving CSU-Pueblo's Website

    • CSU-Pueblo’s website templates are fully responsive – allowing every page to display optimally on all devices – providing easy reading and navigation without resizing, panning, or scrolling. 
    • Beacon advised CSU-Pueblo on a content migration strategy as they moved content from multiple SharePoint sites into the Cascade content management system.
    • The creation of centrally controlled, shared, global content widgets – as well as a centrally maintained infographic library – promotes consistency but has tremendous flexibility.  
    • Beacon implemented Hannon Hill’s calendar and then customized it to reflect CSU-Pueblo’s branding, enhance formatting of desktop & mobile views, and provide integration with the custom templates to show selected events on those pages.
    • Comprehensive testing is an integral component of website redesigns and Beacon’s support included testing all templates, browser and device testing for responsive designs, accessibility testing, and user acceptance testing.
