Beacon goes to Moogfest 2014

Beacon had the opportunity this past weekend to participate in Synthesis, an event by NCTA, at Moogfest in Asheville, NC. This portion of Moogfest was a high energy tech expo featuring a wide range of technology companies. Live entertainment was there, in true Moogfest spirit, and various speakers from the tech field presented throughout the day.

moog1 Beacon was able to participate in the various Moogfest workshops and presentations as well as enjoy all the live music the festival has to offer. The one thing that unites all the performers and speakers throughout Moogfest is the use of technology and innovation in their art and music. It was fascinating to see how technology is being used in both audio and visual experiences and to envision where these technologies will take us in the future. Excitement about interactivity and communication was a common theme throughout Moogfest. At the Google Creators Panel Discussion, the Google team talked about creating tools for mobile devices that allow users to create their own music. Mobile apps are enabling people to have easier access to all sorts of tools, breaking down barriers, and giving people new ways to create and learn. They also showed a project that used data (from Google Maps), combined with images and music to create an audio/video experience that was personalized to the user’s childhood neighborhood. This took the music used in the project to a new personal level. I think personalization and interactivity are always marketable things to integrate into a software product. When you can build a relationship between the user and the experience, then there is attachment there that helps build loyalty and this relates back to user experience and brand loyalty.

moog2 Moogfest is mostly about music, but there was definitely a lot to take away about design and user experience. NCTA’s Synthesis event was a great avenue for people to see how technology is applied across a wide range of areas. A big thank you goes out to NCTA for putting on this event and bridging the gap between technology in the business world and technology in the music world.

Not Your Average Breakfast Conversation

NCTA ETT March 2012 2

Whether you’re a morning person or not, it’s safe to say you won’t find this kind of conversation around the kitchen table.  Part of North Carolina’s Technology Association (NCTA) “Emerging Tech and Trends” breakfast series is focused on providing a forum where business professionals can engage in serious conversation and rhetoric around the ever morphing topic and trend of technology.

“How Technology Enables a Virtual Workforce” was the topic of the March 28 meeting.  The Panel consisted of:

• Rajeev Jaswal, Senior Manager, IT, Red Hat

• Susan Kellogg, CIO, Kenan Flagler Business School

• Josh Schlanger, Director of Infrastructure, ChannelAdvisor.

• Shannon Roberts, Vice President of Technology, Peoplefluent

As a first time attendee I was quite impressed with the candidness and ease at which ideas were tossed about as a casual game of catch, but equally impressed with the sincerity of questions that flowed from the audience.  Distinguished Panel members, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and students sharing their thoughts, experiences, and solutions made for a beneficial time.   It makes sense when you think about it.  What better way to learn, be stretched and sharpened than to gather with likeminded innovators.  Solomon, known as the wisest man that ever lived, went on record saying, “Without counsel, plans go wrong, but in the multitude of counselors they are established.”

As a business owner are you looking for a place to network and bounce around pertinent ideas concerning your business as it relates to technology?  Consider attending the next “Emerging Tech and Trends” series on May 17th http://www.nctechnology.org/events/overview/emerging_tech_trends/default.aspx

Hope to see you there.

Don’t Miss This Event!

Beacon Technologies is excited to be a Hole Sponsor for the North Carolina Technology Association’s (NCTA) Annual Golf Tournament.  We have sponsored and participated in this tournament for years and we’ve been extremely satisfied with the tournament activities, prizes, networking opportunities, and the overall quality experience each player enjoys.  I have found that NCTA provides Beacon with a great channel to connect with the rest of North Carolina, particularly the Raleigh/Durham/RTP and Charlotte areas, where they have a strong membership following.  NCTA is making a concerted effort to engage the Triad more with events at Grandover and Furnitureland South and in Winston-Salem.  The Triad has a lot to offer this organization and in my opinion, it’s important for all of us to stay connected with the businesses (and potential opportunities) across the state.

So get your foursome together ASAP and grab your spot in the tournament lineup!  The event will take place at the beautiful Grandover Resort & Spa in Greensboro on Thursday, June 16.  NCTA always pulls out all the stops to make sure you have a great day and all registrations include breakfast, complimentary beverages, lunch, and a networking reception at “The 19th Hole”.

Lastly, I highly recommend that you take part of your day on Friday, June 17th to attend the NCTA Leadership Conference (also at Grandover).  It’s one of the few conferences that I make a point NOT to miss!  You can get more information at http://www.nctechnology.org/ or call Rachel Kennedy at 919.890.0772.

Beacon partners with the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA)

As a long time member and proud sponsor of the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA), Beacon is excited to be participating in NCTA’s Spring Conference, “State of Technology: Technologies for a Smarter Business.” NCTA puts on several great events through out the year.  They serve as an awesome opportunity to hear industry experts speak, network with like minded folks and keep your finger on the pulse of technology within the state.

The Spring Conference should be another fun and informative event.  The event kicks off at Durham’s Sheraton Imperial Hotel with a cocktail reception on Monday night, April 25th and continues through Tuesday.  There are several interesting panel discussions queued up that feature some of the states brightest IT minds.  I’m sure there will be some valuable take aways from their insights on hot topics like: operation optimization, customer acquisition & satisfaction and the evolving role of the modern CIO.

Beacon will be a sponsor, attendee and exhibitor at the event.  If you will be at the event as well, be sure to drop by our booth and say hello.   It would be great to meet you and hear your perspectives on the sate of technology.

NCTA Partnership

Beacon Technologies inks partnership with the North Carolina Technology Association (NCTA) to provide full scale web marketing for the association, including search engine optimization (SEO), blog development, social media marketing management, email management consulting and deep Google Analytics setup & consulting.  The objective of this agreement is to support NCTA in becoming the primary destination website for technology-related information in North Carolina.  Beacon will also become an Annual Investor and Sponsor for all the 2010 NCTA Events and the Emerging Technology and Trends Series across North Carolina (RTP, Triad and Charlotte).  Beacon will also sponsor NCTA’s weekly email campaigns.  “This is the first time in Beacon’s 12 year history that we plan to market our services more across North Carolina, primarily focusing on the 3 major business areas of the state,” says Mark Dirks, Beacon’s CEO.  “We are very excited about the relationship with NCTA.  They work very hard to help the technology sector of our state and sometimes they go unnoticed.  Our job is to bring them visibility, more members and more communication through their website – and ultimately, bring the organization and its members closer together.”
