Beacon Delivers Smooth Transition w/ Company Name Change

April 2006

One of Beacon’s largest customers, an international wholesale gift item distributor, renamed its company at the beginning of the year. New branding and logos were introduced, but the company was most concerned about how the change would affect its ecommerce business. “Nowadays, it’s not as simple as you would think,” says Julie Joyce, one of Beacon’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Specialists. “Over the past 2 years, we’ve developed a search engine marketing strategy that has driven over 500,000 visitors to their existing site name. We’ve obtained a tremendous amount of visibility and good rankings that the company could not afford to throw away, so it was important that the transition was carefully planned and executed over the course of the first quarter of the year to maintain traffic numbers.”

Traffic totals dipped slightly for only a couple of weeks and the new site is actually seeing a steady increase in traffic since the transition with a 10% increase in June. “This is a good example of why our search engine marketing specialists work so closely with our customers. Had this not been carefully planned, the company would have experienced a significant decrease in online conversions, maybe for as long as 6-8 months,” says Mark Dirks, Beacon’s President.
