Beacon Engaged on Two Projects for the EPA

June 2006

Beacon Technologies announces that Lockheed Martin has engaged the company on two separate projects for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Beacon was selected by Lockheed Martin as an original sub-contractor on the ITS-ESE contract and up to this point, the company has been involved with setting up the project management process and deliverables, then provided web design and development on EPA’s eROE (Report on Environment) system.

Since early this year, Beacon has slowly established a presence in DC at Lockheed Martin’s NEISEC in order to establish a channel of work from DC to Greensboro to support the ITS-ESE development projects. “We have a great relationship with Lockheed Martin and together, we are creating a strategy such that certain projects can be outsourced to our staff in Greensboro at very cost-effective labor rates, while minimizing travel cost,” says Mark Dirks, Beacon’s President. “As a result, they can quickly and easily tap our IT staff for both small and large scale projects. Justin Klingman, our on-site PM in DC, and Patrick Flanagan, Senior Account Executive, have done a tremendous job in establishing strong relationships and capturing work. We fully expect this channel to grow steadily over the remaining years of the ITS-ESE contract.”

As a continuation of the relationship between Beacon Technologies and Lockheed Martin IT (LMIT), the two companies have finalized an agreement for additional technology support on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ITS-ESE Contract. LMIT has tasked Beacon to complete the Technical Analysis and Design in support of a large scale XML data conversion project. This project will analyze various technologies available to scan, parse, and save PDF and OCR Text files with rules-based XML tagging. The existing document library consists of over 50 million images and files. Beacon’s software engineering, system integration, and project management expertise were key decision factors in LMIT’s award to Beacon.

Lockheed Martin IT (LMIT) has also awarded Beacon Technologies another key partner project in support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ITS-ESE Contract. LMIT has tasked Beacon to complete the database design deliverables in support of the Underground Injection Control (UIC) System project. This project is a key component in the development of a national, well-specific UIC database and application for EPA. Nationally, EPA’s UIC Program oversees more than 500,000 injection wells. Beacon’s database design, system integration, and project management skills were important factors in LMIT’s award to Beacon.
