Beacon to Develop System for Guilford Schools
Beacon Technologies announces that it will develop the web-based Advanced Learner System for the Guilford County Schools. The development project follows a 2-month Analysis and Design project to fully define the business requirements, conceptual page layouts, process flow, and graphical design. Beacon's methodology emphasizes a project "blueprint" before the more costly development phase in order to minimize cost and eliminate "surprises" that cause costly re-work.
Technically, in addition to upgrading the system to a Websphere/SQL Server platform, the new system will move to a single login process with centralized student data and therefore, eliminate the current multi-login and some dual-entry of data. The Student Management module will streamline data entry, while providing search functionality and retention of historical information. An Administrative Module will provide the functionality to manage authorized users and easily manage system reference information. The Reporting Module will provide a flexible and efficient reporting tool to meet the Guilford County School's reporting requirements. The new system will also integrate directly with SIMS and export data on demand.
The new system will allow the AL program coordinator, middle school facilitators, and elementary ALCS Teachers to enter student test scores easily, generate reports quickly, and better evaluate students who are of interest to the advanced learner program. Beacon expects to complete the project during Q2 2005.
