New Kaplan Early Learning Site

September 2003

Two months into the launch of their new web site, Kaplan Early Learning Company continues to be excited with the results. Kaplan Early Learning Company is headquartered in Lewisville, North Carolina and provides early childhood education materials, classroom furniture, playground equipment, and training resources to the early childhood market.

Kaplan management had determined that they were not getting the desired results from their old website and wanted to provide better value to their customers. Their old site was not dependable, difficult to maintain and did not represent the broad range of services that Kaplan had to offer.

Steve Miller, Kaplan’s E-commerce Manager, developed a strategy for creating a new website that would add enhanced features and position Kaplan in a stronger competitive position. After several months of analysis and an evaluation of several e-commerce companies, Beacon Technologies was selected to design and develop a new website for Kaplan.

Over the first two months of the project, Beacon focused on its standard Needs Assessment phase, in which Beacon’s Design Team worked with Kaplan to develop a “blueprint” for the Development Phase. In February 2003, the Development Phase kicked-off with an aggressive release date of June.

Throughout the development effort Beacon partnered closely with Kaplan's IT Department. Chris Gerblick, Kaplan’s IT Director was very pleased with this joint effort. "I was extremely pleased with the collaboration of the Beacon team and our IT department. We had a very aggressive schedule and Beacon's methodology was a critical component in meeting our schedules. It was a great success." Kaplan’s new website was launched on June 9, 2003.

Since the launch, Kaplan has seen considerable growth in its online business. Customer feedback has been very positive and traffic has seen a significant increase. Beacon has also provided search engine optimization services to Kaplan to help drive more customers to the new website (www.kaplanco.com).

Steve Miller, Kaplan’s Ecommerce Manager, is very appreciative of Beacon’s efforts. "Having spent most of my career in developing IT products, I can appreciate the proven methodology that Beacon used to design and develop our new site. They are a great partner and we are very pleased with the results. We are now in a much better position to provide value to our customers."
