ChairsByMacThrift Launched

July 17, 2003

MacThrift Office Furniture, one of the top 100 furniture dealers in the country, announced the launch of its ChairsByMacThrift.com site. Partnering with Beacon Technologies, a leading eCommerce software vendor based in Greensboro, MacThrift’s eBusiness strategy focuses specifically on providing chairs to its online customers. Frank Biggerstaff, MacThrift’s President, says “Although there are a few tables and accessories available at ChairsByMacThrift.com, our primary goal is to provide a wide variety of chairs at the lowest possible prices, which includes Free Shipping.” MacThrift’s strategy is to serve the growing online market for customers seeking chairs for churches, schools, conference facilities, and individual consumers as well.

Beacon’s Integrated eCommerce Package was installed in less than 3 weeks to provide the high-end technology required to compete effectively on the internet. “MacThrift understands the importance of integrating the 4 major components of a successful online store,” says Mark Dirks, Beacon’s President. “The eCommerce software must be feature-rich, but the services that surround it are really the determining factor. Dependable Hosting, effective Search Engine Marketing, and responsive Maintenance are absolutely essential. Beacon provides proven expertise in every one of these areas.”

The centerpiece of Beacon’s Integrated eCommerce Package is its software product. Beacon’s IT staff consists primarily of senior level technology experts that worked for companies such as AT&T, Lucent Technologies, IBM, and USAir. Since the company’s inception in 1998, it has continuously refined its eCommerce software during the rise and decline of the dot-com market. Dirks states, “We have really streamlined eCommerce now. Our customers receive ecommerce software that has been developed by expert technologists, have it installed in weeks rather than months, and receive those critical surrounding services for a fraction of what most major eCommerce firms are charging.”

MacThrift’s Vice President, Bill Crawley, is excited about this venture. “The furniture industry has been tough recently and the internet allows us to reduce some administrative overhead, reach more people looking for our products, and become very competitive with our pricing.” He’s particularly happy with the feedback that he’s received about the site. “People have expressed how easy the site is to use. It’s easy to find what you are looking for, plus it’s fast. Our online customers are confirming the value of Beacon’s expertise in usability.”

Over time, MacThrift will continue to introduce more products through the site. “As we tune up our Search Engine Marketing program and traffic increases, we are able to make quick adjustments to our online store based on the shopping habits of our customers. We can adjust pricing, identify specials, and elevate highly-sought items very quickly,” says Biggerstaff. “It’s nice to have one vendor with expertise in all the eCommerce services”.
