Beacon Provides "IT" with innovation

October 2002

Greensboro, NC -- Beacon Technologies, a Greensboro, NC provider of premium information technology services, has recently completed major projects for several companies representing a variety of industries. The companies range in size from small businesses to global corporations who sought Beacon’s IT expertise to create and develop websites, as well as maintain them, some on a daily basis, and to provide the best available technology at the most affordable prices.

Companies just down the street from Beacon’s offices, such as Samet Corporation, benefit from Beacon’s breadth and depth of services, just as west coast companies, like Los Angeles’ All Access Music Group, continue to expand its business behind the IT expertise Beacon consistently provides. Not only are Beacon’s customers all over the United States, they are also all over the map in terms of industry. Companies from industries as varied as entertainment, crop protection, travel, education and government depend on Beacon on a daily basis.

For example, All Access Music Group has depended on Beacon Technologies to design and manage its www.allaccess.com website since 1998. All Access Music Group was the first online daily source of industry news, new music, artist information, radio program tips, radio show preparation and radio links. The industry depends on All Access Music Group to provide current data on record sales, access to Arbitron ratings and to promote new releases by giving website users access to the latest music.

“We are able to expose people to new music, get them to listen to it, get their feedback and report that information as research to the record companies and radio stations in a matter of minutes. None of that would be possible if we did not have a fabulous integrated system and great support from Beacon,” said Joel Denver, president of All Access.

Beacon has a hand in virtually every aspect of the All Access website, ranging from development to hosting to performance testing. It is the largest music web site that is geared toward the music industry. The site, which serves as an on-line magazine for the entire music industry, from top record company executives to nighttime DJ’s, receives 30,000 log-ins on a typical day.

“Beacon is on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year for us,” said Denver. “We count on them all the time.”

While the All Access web site serves thousands, other Beacon clients, such as Greensboro’s Samet Corporation, have Intranet sites, accessible only to employees, in addition to their web sites.

"We pride ourselves on the quality of our employees and we want to do everything we can to keep them abreast of company developments. Our intranet site helps provide our company with effective internal communications. We are leveraging our technology foundation with these three sites. As we build on that foundation over the course of the next three years, we will have premium employee and client communications that will be unmatched in our industry," said Marshall Tuck, vice president of Samet Corp.

In addition to providing web sites for clients including All Access, Samet Corporation, Syngenta, Duke University and the Department of Education, Beacon Tech is now offering an on-line web site review service called SiteReviewExperts.com.

“We want to help owners maximize their online presence and help them boost business via their web sites,” said Mark Dirks, senior partner. While a few rudimentary online web site review services exist, none offers the kind of in-depth review that Beacon provides. “Essentially, we produce a Site Review Scorecard that not only reveals the strengths and weaknesses of your site, but also provides valuable feedback from industry experts on how to improve it,” said Dirks.

The service utilizes a three-tiered system of review ranging in price from $219 to $599. The Standard Scorecard produces scores for each component of the web site and a list of specific areas of concern. The Premium Scorecard includes scores, a description of what isn’t working, and recommendations of how to correct the problem areas. The most in-depth critique, the eComparative Report, includes scores, descriptions of potential problem areas, recommendations for improvements, and comparisons against three other web sites from companies identified by the customer.

Beacon Technologies was formed in 1997 by four information technology experts. Since then, it has grown from four employees in a 700 square foot office to over 40 employees working in 10,000 square feet of office space dedicated to computer technology. Collectively, Beacon’s principals boast over 75 years of experience in the IT industry.
